Clare Dowlings new novel

What I love about Clare's novels is how familiar the characters seem, and how she makes you really care about what happens to them. I also love the humour in her books. This novel is set in a small Irish town and follows the fortunes of Clara who moves back home there from London with her boyfriend, only to find that previously unfinished business with an ex threatens her happiness. As usual with a Clare Dowling novel the story is punctuated with hilarious side plots but the story also has a darker side. This was a great story and I would highly recommend it to readers.

This put me to sleep. But yet again the only reason I bought this was because I had to for English. But hey I don't know maybe you enjoy reading a collection of 50 old mediocre essays (excluding Declaration of Independence, I like that one). If you enjoy that kind of thing this is the book for you. If you don't well then it is a good way to fall asleep... Anyway the book was in good condition as the description says, it just gets 1 star for it dullness. Hope this helps.

KEEL was KOLCHAK

John Keel was the REAL Kolchak, the Night Stalker. I remember seeing a interview with Darren McGavin about 40 years ago and he stated that Kolchak was loosely based on John Keel and his work. I had completely forgotten about Keel until I recently watched a few episodes of the 1973-74 Kolchak on Youtube. I'm so happy to see these books of his various magazine articles compiled into this book and the other one, Flying Saucer to the Center of Your Mind. Like Kolchak Keel chased everything from monsters and vampires to UFOs and a plethora paranormal activity. With one key difference, Keel had about 50 IQ points on Kolchak; he thought this stuff through and had some brilliant theories behind all of this other worldly activity. The stories and articles in these books are so good you almost want to send the publisher some more money. Keel had a superb writing style that keeps the reader glued to the page. Get both of these books, they will only increase in price like the book "The Best of John Keel", which is now selling for over $2200.00(USED) This book contains those stories, you just can't go wrong.Great stuff!!! I see you can buy the whole Kolchak Night Stalker series for under $25.00. Note that the Kolchak pilot is sold separately for some reason (It is still the best vampire movie ever made). Classic John Keel

John A Keel was a dedicated writer of some considerable experience, whose best known works deal with "fringe" subjects. Many are acquainted with his books, particularly The Mothman Prophesies (written about his experiences in Point Pleasant, WV in the 1960s). Keel was also a frequent contributor to any number of contemporary magazines of his day. It is from these stories that Andrew Colvin has assembled a well rounded assortment of Keel's writings on a variety of paranormal topics. Keel was a clear minded original thinker who wasn't afraid to advance ideas that ran contrary to his contemporaries. This book is vintage Keel and is recommended reading for anyone who wants a better understanding of his work.

Good book, worthless software

The book is an update to the previous edition. Unfortunately, everything you needed to know can be found in the original version for less $$. The software is buggy. The Java code is "write once, run maybe" and will not install on anything but certain versions/builds of Windows and internet explorer. Great book for learning G-codes, but buy the first edition at a discount.

CD alone worth the price; trouble under Win2000

I totally disagree with the previous reviewer's opinion: the software is what makes this book great. Of course you need the latest version of IE to run the CD, but why is that a problem? The CD includes what amounts to a complete multimedia course on CNC machining, including mill and lathe simulators. I was totally impressed. That is a lot of video clips and footage of the actual machining process. I sat down knowing little about CNC and left able to write CNC programs to make real parts.
What's really great is that once you learn a concept, you can try it out on the simulators. That really speeds up the learning process and helps retention. You can immediately answer any questions you have about how things actually work by doing little experiments.
Except for a few rough edges on the simulators, everything worked great. We had a little trouble with the file structure of the CD under Windows 2000 NTFS. The programs worked except it wouldn't autorun the install program or let you browse the CD. Finally we had to clone the CD on Win98 to get it to work on Windows 2000.
The best book I've seen on CNC yet, all because of the CD. Not perfect, but highly recommended.

Get a Life!

As a 12 year experienced journeyman, I found the book and program to do exactly what was expected. When someone buys a book or tries to learn from a book. Its intended purpose is to teach a person the foundation of the subject matter. This book was designed to give just that. I have tested the software and found no problems that would have not occurred in a real life situation. Do not teach students that if your CNC does not work or crashes, than the CNC machine or manufacturer [stinks]! To the teachers of the world that complain that it does not work. Get a Life! In the real world, CNC operations do just what you complain about, they CRASH. Now teach your students how to correct the problem. Stop teaching them how to complain. The software and book, and any book of learning, are not intended to make you and expert. It is to TEACH people that want to learn about the subject mater! Do to the number of different CNC interfaces that are on the market or being used in the REAL world. The book tells you right from the beginning, that codes are different to each machine manufacturer. That most machines are based off of the ISO standards, but use their own codes. If someone wants to learn the foundation of CNC's then this is a book for them.
