About the Author
David C. Brown is Professor of Computer Science and has a collaborative appointment as Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is also affiliated with the Manufacturing, Robotics and Learning Sciences programs. His research interests include computational models of engineering design, and the applications of artificial intelligence to engineering and manufacturing. He has published Design Problem Solving: Knowledge Structures and Control Strategies coauthored with B. Chandrasekaran (1990) and Intelligent Computer Aided Design coedited with M.B. Waldron and H. Yoshikawa (1992). From 2001-2011, he was the Editor in Chief of Artificial Intelligence in Engineering, Design, Analysis and Manufacturing, and has been on the editorial boards for Concurrent Engineering: Research and Application; Research in Engineering Design; and The International Journal of Design Computing.

About the Author
Donald Goldsmith was the science editor and co-writer of the PBS television series The Astronomers and the co-writer of NOVA's Is Anybody Out There? with Lily Tomlin. He has written and edited 15 books on astronomy, including The Runaway Universe, Worlds Unnumbered, Supernova!, and The Hunt for Life on Mars. Donald Goldsmith received his Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of California, Berkeley, and has taught astronomy courses there and at other institutions, including Stanford University, Cornell University, and the University of California at Santa Cruz. He has received the lifetime achievement award in popularizing astronomy from the American Astronomical Society, the science writing award from the American Institute of Physics, and the Dorothea Klumpke-Roberts award for increasing public awareness of astronomy from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Tobias Owen ranks among the world's leading experts on the solar system. He was awarded the NASA Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement for his work on the Martian atmosphere with the Viking Landers in 1976 and led the group of Voyager scientists who discovered the rings of Jupiter in 1979. He is currently a member of scientific teams on the Galileo, Nozomi, CONTOUR, DS-1 and Cassini-Huygens missions. With David Morrison, he co-authored a college text, The Planetary System, and has written over 250 scientific and popular articles. He is professor of astronomy at the University of Hawaii where he studies planets, satellites, and comets with the giant telescopes on Mauna Kea.

This book is used as a text by the University of North Dakota Space Studies program where I was exposed to its content. It is an excellent book filled with the recent nuggets of information about the search for life in the universe. It is an excellent guide to understanding the cosmos in galatic and down-to-Earth terms. This book can be read for pure pleasure as well as for general knowledge of astrobilogy and astronomy.

The new edition of this book still is by far the most comprehensive introduction to Bioastronomy, touching almost every branch of science along the exciting path it follows. Remaining firmly grounded in science it shows that reality is so fantastic that it is in no way necessary to fantasize up facts and fictions. Science still is one of the greatest adventures of mankind, and the search for life in space is one of its most stimulating branches. It also is a good motivation for young college students from other subjects to further their knowledge in science - which is necessary because we live in a science dominated world.

The book deals with everything from the formation of stars and planets, to how life formed, to even the best ways to search for life and the odds of life being on other planets. It goes step by step, is easy to understand and even has review questions at the end of each chapter (along with a summary). Lots of photos, some in color, along with figures and tables to help explain and give more details. Great for people who want to understand the reasons people are searching for life on other planets, but also great for just understand the science of life on our planet too. All that and humor too.

Dusty Richards has done it again. The story is a good one with action, love and of lawmen doing everything they can to solve the hanging of three young cowboys whose only problem was one being in love with a big rancher that didn't like it. Book was a good relaxing read. Ready for next book

The Kindle link is not the Signet Edition. The Amazon Mayday employee couldn't grasp this most basic fact, so it's probably still there.

This book provides lots of background information which cannot be found on AACVPR Guidelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation and Secondary Prevention Programs. It best describes atherosclerotic disease,cardiopulmonary response on exercise, strategy on risk factors management and behavioural modifications...etc. Last but not least, the case studies illustrated in this book provide good examples for health care professionals. About the Author
CHRISTIAN L. DUNIS is Girobank Professor of Banking and Finance at Liverpool Business School, and Director of its Centre for International Banking, Economics and Finance (CIBEF). He is also a consultant to asset management firms, a Visiting Professor of International Finance at Venice International University and an Official Reviewer attached to the European Commission for the evaluation of applications to finance of emerging software technologies. He is an Editor of the European Journal of Finance, and has widely published in the field of financial markets analysis and forecasting. He has organised the Forecasting Financial Markets Conference since 1994.

JASON LAWS is a Lecturer in International Banking and Finance at Liverpool John Moores University. He is also the Course Director for the M.Sc. in International Banking, Economics and Finance at Liverpool Business School. He has taught extensively in the area of investment theory and derivative securities at all levels, both in the UK and in Asia. Jason is also an active member of CIBEF, and has published in a number of academic journals. His research interests are focussed on volatility modelling and the implementation of trading strategies.

Provocative and fun text on the cutting edge, not an introductionn

Whereas most books on quantitative finance focus on how to price derivatives or model interest rates, this is a text on quantitative and computational methods that are about making money.

How to we forecast future prices? What is the place for artificial intelligence and neural networks? How are people using Bayesian methods and neural regressions? How can technical analysis and trend-following rules contribute to quantitative trading systems? How can new volatility and correlation models be applied (in Excel) to portfolio optimization?

These questions are answered by practitioners and academics with case studies and real-world applications. Each chapter provides a quick taste of things people are doing outside the box of your typical quant finance books. Do not expect a new philosophy or over-arching theory. This is just a book to prod half-baked ideas that might merit more consideration or to re-start one's own creative juices.

Supplement SW No Longer Supported - Not worth buying anymore

This may have been a good book in its day. The chapters explain difficult concepts using supplemental software to walk you through the examples. The problem is, the software no longer comes with the book. And the SW that Wiley has on its website for downloading is no longer supported. Here is the message that Wiley gave me after I reported the SW failed to install:

"As a print on demand title, this book was placed in such status due to its low interest level and age, a status usually just preceding going out of print.
Unfortunately, the associated materials are from the late 90s through 2001 or 2002 and they have not been updated in some time.
The fact that the book is in the status it is in is because, per editorial, the title will not be receiving any updates and the use of the materials online is as is.

There does not appear to be a fix for the license error since this third party program has not had the included license updated for some years and will not be updated going forward. We are unfortunately unable to get the software running on your computer as there is no way for us to have the original developers update the system."

If you like to read about examples using a software package that is no longer available, then go ahead an order this. Otherwise, save the money and put it in the piggy bank for a matlab license.

For traders with very strong statistics and programming background

Unless you already are in the trade or you want to write your own trading programmes, please give this a pass. This quantitative analysis based book is definitely beyond those without very strong statistics and programming capabilities. Sorry to tell you that as an MBA, CFA pro trader, I could grasp at most 30% of the modeling techniques described. Certainly the CDROM bundled did help. However, I doubt how many readers would have that patience and resource to collect and input the data needed.
